What did they call the place we could shoot the rapids in the canal on Price south of Guadalupe rd.  The canal turned west and you could float thru a headgate/waterfall. Dangerous as hell but it wouldnt have been fun if it wasnt I guess. Was it the slide, chute.....?

Jerry, I don't remember the name of the place, but it reminds me of other ways we cooled off in the summer:

The Pumps -- down in Chandler -- south McClintock or Rural?  We'd go out and sit in the concrete boxes the irrigation well pumps dumped water into, sitting right under the huge pipes.  Ahhhh.

The Aquaduct -- it ran over the road that ran through the east end of Papago Park.  It was fun to float over the road and splash water on the cars that drove underneath*.

The Diving Rocks at Canyon Lake -- east end of Canyon Lake by the bridge.  A blast to jump from.

* On the night of the senior class party at Legend City, my girlfriend from Coronado and I saw a guy roll his new Camaro as he snaked under the aquaduct.  He was fine, but the car looked like it'd been through a trash compactor.  He got out, then reached inside the upsidedown car which was still crackling, turned out the lights, then unscrewed the gearshift knob.

Hi Jerry and Larry,
The picture Pat posted for me of Genie, Gail, and Cindy Pike in bikinis (I was taking the picture) was at Canyon Lake, by the jumping cliffs at you spoke about, Larry.  We'd all been in summer school together after our junior year taking Chemistry.  While my memory isn't crystal clear, hadn't we been jumping off those cliffs that day girls?

Thanks for the tribute to Pete. It was a very thoughtful and moving story. I saw Pete around campus and thought he seemed a likable guy. Sounds like my lack of his friendship was my loss. I remember you and I huffing and puffing going back and forth on the BB courts, engaging in Coach Duane's 'happy time' torture rituals. Thanks for the memory.

Do you guys remember water skiing behind cars in the canals?

My sister Lora and I also would swim our horses in the dirt canals.

Could you imagine letting your kids (grandkids) do that now?

She has ridden horses with you and Lora. She mostly rode with Marcene Follett later on. Ellen used to ride her horse into the Papago Park Lagoons as she had to laugh at that one at the Canal. Ellen said everyone on horses usually spent some time riding back then at 8th street and Hardy Stables and that area. Ellen kept her Palomino Tiki at Strawns. I always let Ellen know the horse stories.

She rode Doll and Blondie at 8th street. They would ride over to Weldons at Night and Papago Park. Ellen said Lora will remember her. The other customers were not using the Wranglers at Night. You know these kids Vic {:

Louis
